Funny but I have packed my pack 3 times today and still I think I have too much. I am taking another bag to forward to Santiago from St Jean but damn I think I have too much. ok ok I have 4 pairs of socks….I changed my Birkenstock sandals to thongs – lighter but definitely not as comfortable. I bought a late addition long sleeved shirt instead of taking a cotton one (thanks Kate) which looks far more hiking than the one I had (kinda casual Friday corporate)….lighter than cotton and will dry faster.
Many calls and texts to wish me good luck – thanks everyone. Both Mum and Dad and my outlaws, Gill and Rob all said independently “What an adventure’ – something so different to what we normally do…. and if he was 30 years younger Dad would have come with me….father / son bonding session – maybe would have pushed him off the Pyrenees (only joking Dad) – would have been a real treat.
3 weeks on my own, will really miss Kate, Lucy and Sam. In fact, I don’t think I have been on my own for 3 weeks since I was traveling through Europe when I was 22. Will be weird, but I expect there will be others on the trail going the same way as me.
Got my music ready, have trained with a PT for 4 months on core, hammies etc (thanks B) and feeling a bit ready for the trip. Walking will be training in itself for the Camino, so I will get fitter as I go…
Time to go to the airport, next stop Hong Kong then Paris.
3 years of envisioning and planning comes to this….
yeah the day Has finally arrived, enjoy xx
