its not often you find yourself looking for the easy way out. Well not that often anyway! Ok occasionally…..anyway I spent the bulk of the day looking for the easy way into Burgos. It didn’t happen.
we and I say the Aussies, Craig, Robyn and Ross and I walked back to Atapuerca via Ages and then over some bloody hill which really didn’t need to be there. Ages was a quaint little town….
We walked straight through there and on to Atapuerca. Stopped for coffee and then up the hill to a nice view in the distance to Burgos. There was some sort the cross on the top of the hill, not sure what for but it was prominent.
There were more sunflower fields but someone who loves Pam etched their sentiment on their faces.
Then down over some undulating hills and past the airport. It was a pretty challenging as it continued to drizzle in my face and then blow a howling gale to get past the airport. I took the wrong turn which would have allowed me to find a bus into town but it wasn’t to be. We walked finally down the beautiful river first and then on to the gates of the city.
I’m not sure if anyone has been to Burgos but it is absolutely stunning. A fortress walled town, El Cid protected and ruled the city, I think. Anyway he is pretty famous here and once you get inside the gate you see the marvelous cathedral.
So tons of things inside to see, with more Christ on the cross than I have seen anywhere, but all perfectly represented.
There was a stairway to heaven…….
Many alters
A wooden thing I wasn’t sure what it was, but looked like a secret container for questions for a game show…..
A lovely internal cloister….
An amazing stone carving of Christ carrying the cross, which was truly inspiring…..
And finally, I thought I would just add a picture of this as I bought it in Nejera a couple of days ago. It is my Camino bracelet….
So although I spent the bulk of the day trying to shortcut the walk into Burgos, once I travelled the hardest 26km so far and found my hotel, I really enjoyed the cathedral and a bite to eat with the Brazilian guy, Arnaldo, I walked with yesterday.
now time to sleep……then off across the Meseta tomorrow.

I am thinking your wooden box may be a tabernacle for blessed Communion wafers, although I think your idea of a container for game show answers may boost attendance on any given Sunday.
Am loving this blog & Thinking of you several times a day..
Buen Camino Vanguard.
Andy, I have finally managed to catch up with all the tales of your fabulous journey from day 1, and what an incredible thing you are doing. That cathedral today looks so beautifully spiritual and full of centuries of history. As is your whole journey, of course. It certainly sounds like you are having a wonderful time despite the challenges you face from your knee and snoring fellow travellers! Now you know what kate had to put up with!! 😎 The Pix Are Brilliant. Keep Them Coming. The beard is coming along nicely and it looks like you have lost a kilo or two as well. We missed you yesterday and look forward to slide night on your return! Best to you from Elwood on the day we have yet another new prime minister!!
Hey Pedro, great to hear from you. Yes very sorry I missed yesterday but glad Kate could celebrate for. Oth of us. She said Daryl was in great form…..
Walked a bloody long way so far, and still a bloody longways to go still. Feet are sore but soul is strong……
