Basically woke up after a good nights sleep in a small dorm of only 10. The Pilgrims dinner was lovely, pasta, chicken and ice cream for 10€. Not sure if I paid or not actually…..
Walked out of Lorca and headed to Estella. It was only a short 10km, which I covered in 1.5 hrs. We passed through fun flower fields.
Pulled into Estella and found a cafe where a group of us had breakfast. Tostada es tomato, cafe con leche and boccodillo. Yum.
This is the time when you say, should I listen to my sore body and stay in what looks like a sweet little town or push on to another place and hope to get a bed. Intuition prevailed and the body won. I found a pharmacy to buy a knee brace and some antihistamine for some bites I am getting.
So I decided to stay, with another lady called Liz from England. We found the hostel. A large relatively new youth hostel just out of town. We were given our rooms and headed into town to spend the day looking at museums and galleries.
This is the beautiful San Pedro church. Estrella has the remains of St Andrew located in the church. He is he patron Saint of Estella as well as Scotland. This is the paining of his crucifixion, hence the cross on the Scottish flag.
Finally there is a statue of St James aka Santiago as you walk into the church. Scallop shell adorned on his cap.
So Mark Breen, yes you were almost right and I needed to stop on day 5, not day 4.
I am getting prepared for the next week across Rioja…….not sure what will happen in Rioja? 😉
In amongst all those beautiful fields of gold, it’s sounding a bit perilous on the way – marauding spanish sheep, and bites! by the way those might be bed bugs – good reason to stop staying in huge dorms – or check the beds – especially round the edges! xoxo
Sorry to hear about your knee. If you can get hold of some Arnica gel, you might want to try rubbing it into the knee before you go to sleep. Am loving the blog, and thinking of you every day. Buen Camino Vanguard.
